Volunteer

Legal Advocates operate from our main office, located in the Media Borough, and accompany clients to the court of Common Pleas, file petitions with the Office of Judicial Support, advocate on behalf of clients before a judge and sometimes assist clients in preparing a petition for a Protection from Abuse Order (PFA).  Paralegal or legal background is preferred.

Hotline Volunteer: Hotline volunteers have the flexibility to answer our 24-hour crisis hotline during the hours of 8:30am-4:30pm in the main office, located in the Media Borough.  Ideally, volunteers should have a high school diploma or related experience, and are required to complete an additional supervised on-site training.  Hotline calls include crisis, information and referral through assessment of needs.

Safe House Assistant: This position is very flexible and can be on an “as needed” basis.  Volunteers provide support for safe house staff with basic cleaning and maintenance needs, donations management, possible hotline assistance and administrative support for safe house staff.  Ideally, volunteers should have a high school diploma or related experience and knowledge of domestic violence issues.

Donations Assistant:  Volunteers work to process, store and distribute donations to the shelter residents.

Child Advocate:  Work with children to provide creative and socially enriching activities during times the mothers are engaged in workshops or case management at the Safe House.

Outreach Volunteer:  We are looking for dynamic presenters to assist our department with providing educational programs about domestic violence to the community.  Presenters are needed for both adult and youth programs, and volunteer trainers work in teams with a staff member until they are comfortable presenting alone. Volunteers also assist with tabling events to raise awareness and build support for the agency in the Delaware County community.

Administrative Support: Copying, filing, and organizing are often helpful in our main office.
